Summary: Tom gets Gustav a kitten for Valentine’s day.

Tom scowls and huffs as he changes the channel. Everywhere a person turns, they’re reminded that tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. He’s always found it annoying. One holiday ends and, in a matter of days, the next one is being advertised. This year, though, it’s not just annoying. It’s a downright pain in the ass.

This year, he’s not single.

He knows Gustav isn’t expecting a gift, nor does he probably even want one. For some reason, though, thinking about not getting his boyfriend something doesn’t sit right with him.

Giving up on the television, Tom tosses aside the remote and grabs his phone to call their security team. If he’s going to get something for Gustav, it won’t magically appear in his lap, and time is almost up. He needs to go shopping.

“I give up,” Tom announces. “I’ve bought a new hat for myself, jewellery for Bill, and candy for us both yet nothing for Gustav,” he complains. “I should just buy him chocolates and be done with it.”

Tom keeps walking down the street with no planned destination, his bodyguard following in silence.

“What about you?” Tom suddenly asks the man following him. “What did you get your girlfriend?”

“Front row tickets to a play she really wants to see,” he replies. Tom sighs. That wasn’t much help.

“Do you have any sugges- Puppies!” Gift buying seemingly forgotten for the moment, Tom walks into the pet shop and bends down in front of the crate the puppies are in. His bodyguard crouches down next to him, slipping his fingers through the bars of the crate to pet the dogs as well.

“I think you and your brother have enough animals,” he comments with a chuckle.

“Bite your tongue!” Tom looks up from the puppies and spots a smaller crate a few feet away. There’s a basket in it and what seems to be a pile of kittens inside the basket. There’s a little white head poking out from the pile, and the sight makes Tom melt.

Puppies forgotten, he makes his way over to the little kitten. When he runs a finger over its pink nose, its eyes blink open, and Tom smiles.

“She’s the runt of her litter.” Tom turns to see one of the store employees. “Would you like me to take her out for you? She’s such a sweet little girl and very loving.” Her tone is hopeful, and Tom nods, putting his bags down on the floor.

The kitten is tiny and looks even smaller while nestled in his arms. She’s purring loudly, rubbing her nose and chin on any part of Tom she can reach. He scratches behind her ear and she only purrs louder, rolling around in his arms until she’s on her back. Tom knows there’s no way in hell he’s leaving the store without her.

He and Bill do have enough pets, but Tom knows Gustav will take good care of her, and Tom will help. He turns to the sales lady and grins.

Gustav slides his arms around Tom’s neck when he arrives and gives him a kiss before smiling slyly. “Tom Kaulitz celebrating Valentine’s day. I don’t know if I should be excited or worried,” he teases.

Tom shoves him away lightly and rolls his eyes, walking away from Gustav and making his way to the living room. “Fine. I’ll just keep your gift and give it to my other half. Bill would certainly be happy about that.”

“I take it back. I have the most amazing boyfriend in the world, and I know I’ll love whatever it is you got me. Am I forgiven?”

“Might have to grovel a bit more and possibly get down on your knees.”

“I can totally do- Holy shit!” Gustav comes to a stop, staring at the big cardboard box sitting on the living room floor, a white bow placed on top of it. “That is huge. What the hell did you get me?” The drummer walks around the box as if trying to figure out what’s inside. Tom chuckles.

“That just goes with your gift. It’s not the actual gift.” His boyfriend is now thoroughly confused, and Tom grabs him by the shoulders, leading him to the couch before sitting him down. “Wait here. And no peeking. Keep those eyes of yours closed.”

Tom hurries out of the living room and into the bathroom where the kitten is sleeping curled up in the sink. He chuckles and scoops her up. She wakes and within moments, she’s purring. He quietly walks back to the living room, checking first to make sure Gustav is still facing away before padding over to the couch.

Gustav still has his eyes closed, and Tom kneels down next to him before placing the kitten on his boyfriend's lap. Gustav’s eyes snap open and, when he sees what Tom’s placed in his lap, they light up. “She’s so cute. And small,” he marvels, holding the cat to his chest. “Or is she a he?”

“She’s a she,” Tom confirms. “All she needs is a name. In the box is everything you need for her and then some.”

“Got a little carried away?” Gustav asks with a chuckle. Tom shrugs and Gustav shakes his head, leaning down for a kiss that eventually gets interrupted by a paw gently swiping at their jaws.

Tom gently taps the kitten on the nose before pointing a finger at her. “Grown ups kiss. Get used to it, Princess.”

“Now I’m glad I forgot your gift in the car. I’ll need to go out and get something else that measures up to this.”

Tom reaches back to snatch the bow off the box and deposits it on Gustav’s head. “There. You combined with the gift in your car more than measures up.”

The bow slips off Gustav’s head, and the cat pounces on it. Tom and Gustav laugh before Tom turns serious. “You know there’s no measuring up needed, though, right? Whatever gifts I get you now or in the future, I won’t be expecting anything in return, let alone of equal value or size. Not to mention that I’ll love whatever you give me, no matter what it is.”

Gustav kisses him once before lifting Tom’s chin with the hand not holding the cat. “This holiday is making you sappy, Mr. Kaulitz.”

“I know!” Tom whines. “Make it stop!”

Gustav chuckles. “I promise not to tell, and so does the cat. Now, how about we tire this little girl out and then head upstairs so you can enjoy part of your gift.”

Tom snatches the bow from between the kitten’s paws and places it back on top of his boyfriend’s head, grinning. He likes that plan.
