Mary is upstairs when she hears John calling her name from the kitchen. There’s a slight panic in his voice and Mary rushes down the stairs, prepared to fight for her family’s safety.

She comes to a stop in the kitchen doorway and covers her mouth to keep from laughing. Dean’s in his highchair, the chocolate cake he was eating is smeared over his face and every surface his little hands can reach.

“Cake, Mummy!” Dean announces with glee. He wipes a smear of icing over his father’s cheek as demonstration and Mary laughs.

“Let’s get you boys cleaned up.”
