John watches Mary as she watches Dean playing with the kids next door. She’s been peaking through the curtains in the kitchen window ever since she heard them go out into the yard. John chuckles and walks over, wrapping his arms around her. Looking out the window, he sees Dean and his friends chasing Oreo, their neighbor’s new puppy, around the yard.
“He’s fine, Mary.”
“I know. I was just-”
“Being overprotective?” John teases. Mary smacks him lightly on the arm. “You know, the reason Dean is spending the afternoon with Tim and Abby is so that you and I can have the afternoon together. Alone. I would hate to be jealous of a window.”
The corners of Mary’s lips twitch up into a smile and she smacks him again. John holds her tighter in his arms.
“He’s growing up so fast,” Mary tells him. “Says he’s a big boy now and soon he’ll be as big and strong as his daddy.”
“One day,” John agrees as they keep watching.
“Let’s have another baby,” Mary tells him suddenly, twisting around in John’s arms to look at him.
“I can get behind that idea,” John answers her with a smile as he slips and arm under her knees to lift her up. “I say we get right on that.”
